Deze plant is een geliefd ingredi\u00ebnt in de Italiaanse keuken en wordt wereldwijd gewaardeerd om zijn licht bittere smaak. Ook in de Nederlandse moestuin kun je prima radicchio telen. De meest bekende is de rode radicchio oftewel roodlof, maar er bestaat ook een groene variant die dan natuurlijk groenlof heet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-theme-palette-1-color has-theme-palette-7-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-00eb8624f09ea5c7f9678bb3e5cb563b\" style=\"border-style:none;border-width:0px;border-radius:21px;margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);margin-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--60);padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\"><blockquote><p><strong>Leuk weetje<\/strong>: <\/p><cite>Radicchio dankt zijn kleur aan anthocyanen, antioxidanten die de plant beschermen en die ook voor mensen gezondheidsvoordelen bieden.<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radicchio behoort tot de <a href=\"\/index.php\/tag\/cichoreifamilie\/\">cichorei-familie<\/a>, net als andijvie en witlof, en is vooral bekend als saladegroente, hoewel het ook heerlijk gegrild of gestoofd kan worden. Radicchio groeit als kropsla, en maakt helder rode of groene bladeren met spierwitte nerven. De felle kleuren maken de radicchio zeer geschikt voor salades. Gebruik wel genoeg zoete en\/of zure tegenhangers in de salade, want radicchio is behoorlijk bitter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Latijnse naam van radicchio is <em>Cichorium intybus var. foliosum<\/em>. Deze tweejarige plant wordt doorgaans als eenjarige geteeld in moestuinen. De levenscyclus begint bij het zaaien van de zaden, gevolgd door een groeiperiode waarin de bladeren zich ontwikkelen tot compacte kropjes. Na het oogsten van de krop zal de plant niet meer opnieuw uitlopen en sterft af. De Tuinagenda hanteer echter een zaaiperiode die begint vanaf juni. Radicchio schiet namelijk snel door als het te warm is. Daarom vermijden we de periode rond de langste dag (21 jun).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radicchio zaaien we voor in trays of kleine potten. Sommigen geven de voorkeur aan het direct zaaien op de plaats van bestemming, omdat radicchio slecht tegen verplanten kan. Als de gewenste plek in je tuin al vrij is kun je dus ook kiezen voor zaaien in de volle grond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voor voorzaaien vul je potje met een luchtig <a href=\"https:\/\/tinygardenbigfun.nl\/index.php\/weetjes-uit-de-moestuin\/zaai-en-stekgrond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">zaaimedium<\/a>. Zaai drie tot vier zaadjes per pot van ongeveer 5 cm doorsnede, zodat je later kunt <a href=\"https:\/\/tinygardenbigfun.nl\/index.php\/weetjes-uit-de-moestuin\/uitdunnen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">uitdunnen <\/a>en de sterkste zaailing kunt behouden. Zorg voor een kiemtemperatuur van 15-20\u00b0C, wat in de meeste gevallen binnenshuis of in een koude kas goed te bereiken is. Je herkent plantklare zaailingen aan een stevig wortelgestel en drie tot vier goed ontwikkelde blaadjes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radicchio kun je het beste op een zonnige plek met goed doorlatende grond telen, verrijkt met compost. In de no dig-methode kun je de plantjes direct in de compostlaag planten. Houd een plantafstand van 30&#215;30 cm aan; in een vak van 30&#215;30 cm past dus precies \u00e9\u00e9n plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radicchio kan ook in potten worden gekweekt, mits deze een inhoud van minstens 10 liter hebben. De plant maakt de losse krop strakker zodat een stevige krop ontstaat. Je oogst de compacte kropjes door de plant net boven de grond af te snijden. Je kunt radicchio in \u00e9\u00e9n keer oogsten of, als je meerdere keren hebt gezaaid, de oogst spreiden. De plant kan goed tegen de kou, maar als de krop al flink stevig is, dan zijn ze ook gevoeliger voor vorst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Na de oogst behandel je radicchio zoals sla: spoel de bladeren goed af en bewaar ze in de koelkast. In een afgesloten zak of bak blijven de kropjes tot een week vers. Vergelijkbaar met ijssla, maar veel meer aroma!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deze radicchio vari\u00ebteiten zijn allemaal prachtig om te zien, makkelijk om te telen en een smakelijke aanvulling op je moestuin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radicchio is relatief ongevoelig voor plagen, maar slakken kunnen jonge planten aantasten. Bescherm je zaailingen door barri\u00e8res te plaatsen of biologisch verantwoorde slakkenkorrels te gebruiken. Verder is het belangrijk om de grond gelijkmatig vochtig te houden, vooral tijdens droge periodes, om te voorkomen dat de bladeren te bitter worden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoewel radicchio kou goed verdraagt, kun je bij vroege vorst een vliesdoek gebruiken om de kropjes te beschermen. In milde winters kun je zelfs doorplanten en oogsten tot in december. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-opvolgingsteelt-successionplanting\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opvolgingsteelt (successionplanting)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Radicchio is een typisch krop voor de twee seizoenshelft. Je kunt het niet in de 1e seizoenshelft kweken, want dan zal deze in de zomerwarmte <a href=\"https:\/\/tinygardenbigfun.nl\/index.php\/weetjes-uit-de-moestuin\/doorschietende-planten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doorschieten<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Je kunt het daarom prima gebruiken als opvolging van bijvoorbeeld <a href=\"https:\/\/tinygardenbigfun.nl\/index.php\/planten-in-de-moestuin\/uien-zelf-telen\/\">uien <\/a>die je in juni of juli oogst.
